The Kiribati cultural dance is unique in its emphasis on the outstretched arms of the dancer and the sudden birdlike movement of the head. The Frigate bird on the Kiribati flag refers to this bird-like style of Kiribati dancing.

In the traditional Kiribati dancing, smiling is generally considered vulgar. This is because by tradition, Kiribati dance was not only a form of entertainment but also as tributes to particular spirits, the unification of two clans, a form of oral storytelling and simply the display of the skill, beauty and endurance of the dancer.

In Feburary of 2006, The Kiribati Dance Troupe came to Hualien on a performing tour. Luckily for us, their coordinator Mr. Chou Ming-Gan is an alumnus of our school. He arranged for the Troupe to come and gave a special performance for the whole school. It’s been a great cultural experience for us.
2006年二月，吉里巴斯舞蹈團來花蓮表演。很幸運，他們的領隊周民淦秘書是我們附小的榮譽校友，在他安排之下，吉里巴斯舞團來到本校為全校師生做了一場特別的表演。這真是一次很棒的文化體驗。
